Belém & Lx Factory Tuk TourPortugal's Age of Discoveries, also known as the Age of Exploration, refers to a historical period during the 15th and 16th centuries when Portugal played a pioneering role in maritime exploration, trade, and expansion. This era marked a significant chapter in world history as European powers sought to establish maritime routes to Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The riverside area of Belem became a center for maritime exploration, as Portuguese explorers set sail from here on their voyages of discovery. Several key monuments in Belém commemorate this historic era such as the Belem Tower, Jeronimo’s Monastery, the discoveries monument, and others. We’re going to see the monuments from the Discoveries, but Belem is much more than that. This is undoubtedly a very artistic neighborhood with the MAAT, the CCB the National Coach Museum and the Museum of Popular Art. On its hill you can also see the last royal palace, Palacio da Ajuda, which is now also a museum too. We couldn't come to Belem without a visit at the famous Pasteis de Belem where you can taste this delicacy. On the way back to Lisbon, we'll take a short diversion to the LX Factory neighborhood. Here, art is not exhibited in museums but on the façades. This is a good place to have lunch and spend an afternoon with its shops, cafés, and restaurants. |
